Endwell, NY – Visions Federal Credit Union has promoted Derek Garcia as the new Vice President/Chief Retail Officer (CRO).

As CRO, Garcia is responsible for ensuring a holistically positive experience for all Visions members, as well as for their 300+ Branch and Contact Center employees. Garcia’s role provides a panoramic view of the larger cooperative through the perspective of these member-facing teams and requires an intimate understanding of how employees’ needs interact with members’ needs.

With 13 years of prior experience working within a credit union, Garcia joined Visions as a Branch Manager in 2013 when they acquired CTCE Federal Credit Union. Now with 26 years’ experience in his career, Garcia has fulfilled many different roles and consistently took part in advancing Visions towards innovations in service and communications. A prominent example of this being his fundamental work as a Contact Center Quality Assurance and Training Manager, designing new methods to develop, maintain, and measure the ability of Contact Center employees to efficiently resolve any problems or concerns that members might come to them with.

Alongside member feedback, a large part of Garcia’s role has to do with employee feedback. In order to promote a culture of continuous feedback, Visions holds multiple internal employee surveys a year, and Garcia is the funnel for Branch and Contact Center responses. “It’s important to remember that it’s not my voice, but the voice of the people I serve. My job is to understand the message behind, and the overall theme surrounding the feedback, concentrate what needs aren’t being met, and bring those conversations to leadership.” By championing employee feedback and campaigning for meaningful change, Garcia makes space for further engagement between employees, the members they assist, and the greater community around them.

“We are the financial experts our members turn to when they need help, guidance, or a solution.” Garcia explains, hoping for more opportunities to capture the larger impact that Visions has on the communities and members they serve. “Every conversation with a member is a chance to leave a long-lasting impression – a chance to be the reason someone saves money, reaches a goal, or chooses Visions for life. That’s a privilege.”
